A utopia has perfect technological advancements and in order to research how technology could’ve supposedly advanced i need to look at the most recent discoveries and advancements.
The one I first think of is AI, it has really blown up recently being used in Photoshop, ChatGPT and other platforms. There are lots of ethical concerns with AI because of how some sites tend to use other artists work (artwork, writing) to feed into the database of which it forms its own images (plagiarism). Although, the image generating AI I’ve used (photoshop) claims to be ethical, so thats what I’ve used.
Computers and devices are also getting more powerful with higher processing speeds and smarter devices, which in a hypothetical sense would allow devices to keep up with the demands of a utopian society. There is also datafication; the modification of human chores and tasks into data-driven technology.
One of my favourites is about 3D printing. Not just making plastic figures and gadgets but 3d printing for medicine. I knew someone who could 3D print medicine in very specific amounts from powder which would mix medicines together so that the patient could just take one pill to fulfil medicinal needs. They could also be printed into any shape which made the medicine more appealing to children who are opposed to medicine. This could mean that in the future all of human supplemental needs could be easily solved by some high tech individualised pill.
There have been a lot of advancements regarding green energy and sustainability. There are also lots of jobs within these areas and thats good for economic growth.
There are some biological discoveries like cloning but there are issues with ethical nature of this, therefore it is illegal to attempt to clone humans. It was successfully done on a sheep: Dolly. These kind of things are both amazing and scary, as TV and media show in the wrong hands this science could go extremely wrong. But it also could be used to revive extinct species that could help heal our planet.
In review, these advancements give a glimpse into a possible utopia but without 100% goodwill (which I don’t think is possible) there will always be chance for things to go wrong but there is potential. This is another explanation for why utopia isn’t truly achievable.
